The Great Storm of 1987 was a violent extra-tropical cyclone that occurred on the night of 15–16 October, with hurricane-force winds causing casualties as a severe depression in the Bay of Biscay moved northeast.  Sea spray was recorded in London even though the gale was from the southwest. Disruption to travel and electricity supplies affected Stansted and Fairseat and significant damage occurred in Trosley Country Park with the loss of a large number of trees.  In 2017 the Telegraph published a video marking the 30th anniversary of the storm which is available via the following link.
