Four Seasons Park - Labour-in-Vain Road

Four Seasons Park is a development of thirty-three park holiday homes in a gated community located off Labour-in-Vain road near the A20. The Stansted Parish boundary finishes nearby at the junction of Labour-in-Vain Road and Tumblefield Road so Four Seasons Park is in the Parish of Wrotham and has been included for completeness as it is only from that road that the site can be accessed.

The development is on land that was originally part of Butts Hill Farm. In 1953 the area of the farm was eight acres and included a half-timbered log cabin which was previously a chicken shed. In 1954 a seasonal licence was granted to Owen and Iris Bryce for ten caravans on a two-acre area, the remaining land being used as a pig farm, 500 poultry, ducks and geese and market gardening. At this time the campsite was in use from 1st March to 31st October each year and Owen and Iris Bryce lived in a basic bungalow on the Butts Hill Farm site close to Labour in Vain Road.

A new dwelling was built in 1959 further into the site towards the camping ground and this is today known as New Bungalow. The original bungalow was left at the front of the site and was sold. The original building has been extended and remodelled and is today called Coppas. The building of New Bungalow was funded by the sale of the original wooden house and of a four-acre field which is now Four Seasons Park.

10 caravans were originally allowed on the camping site for 8 months of the year and by 1994 use was extended to 11 months (from 15th February to 15th January).

This relatively minor use changed in 2014 when planning consent was given for up to 32 caravan/mobile homes with occupancy allowed for 12 months of the year. A condition stated that the units were for holiday use only and should not be used for any person’s sole or main place of residence.
